One of the wish list items that we had for our future home was a nice outdoor area where we could enjoy nature, seasons and the occasional chat with neighbors (emphasis on occasional). When we toured this house, the covered porch space was a big perk because not a lot of houses that we visited had a real porch space. Since moving in, we have taken advantage of that area A LOT. For lunch breaks, to read, mid-day calls to the familia etc.
Fortunately, we didn’t really have to purchase anything to decorate the porch because we brought everything from our last house. I am so happy that we kept the rocking chairs because they fit perfectly in the space. They could probably use some freshening up. We will save that for another day.
One thing that we did purchase was a new light. We had been wanting a star light since we lived in our townhouse in Florida. Sergio is a big fan. Our plan was to get a star light in our music room/loft area in the last house but never really got around to decorating the space with the exception of some wall art.
The Moravian Star and Winston-Salem
When we moved to Winston-Salem, we noticed that a lot of houses around here had some form of this star light. After touring the visitor center in Old Salem, we learned that this star is known as the Moravian star and is symbolic of advent to the Moravians. Winston-Salem was founded by the Moravians back in 1766 and still have big presence here. For any fellow history nerds, you can learn more about the history of the Moravians in Winston-Salem here.
Having learned this piece of history, we knew we HAD to get the Moravian Star Light for some area in our house. The front porch seemed like the perfect place.
Pottery Barn Olivia Star Pendant
Now, for those who know me know that I refuse to pay full price for anything. I practice patience and wait for good deals to come up. They always do. I have had my eye on the Olivia light from Pottery Barn for some time now. I kept holding on pulling the plug until I got a good deal or it went on clearance. Well, a few weeks ago, Pottery Barn had some deal going on and this light, which is originally $199, was on sale for $139 ($60 dollars off!!) AND a discount code for free shipping ($21!!). Do the math, I SAVED $81!!
Sergio put the light up a few weekends ago and I love it! Now every time I see the light, it not only represents some history of Winston-Salem, but also my impeccable bargain shopping skills!
For your convenience, I’ve linked the items (or similar if I can’t find the exact one) used to create this look below.
Shopping List: Rocking Chairs | Topiaries | Buffalo Checkered Rug | Welcome Mat | Buffalo Checkered Pillows | Wreath | Light
Stay safe friends.
