Our baby boy turned the BIG ONE last month and we celebrated his first birthday with a vintage ‘FAST ONE’ theme. We are big Formula 1 fans in this house and so it felt fitting that this would be the theme. I wanted to document some party details here for memories and in case anyone else needs some ideas. Enjoy!
The stationary
In a world of e-vites, I am a stamped envelope, paper invite gal through and through. Even though we were just having a small gathering, I still wanted to have invitations made and delivered. I purchased his invitations from this Etsy shop (and for fun added the race car confetti). Shortly after I ordered the invitations, she stopped doing custom orders which was unfortunate because I chose her shop for that reason. She had offered items like one year stats and monthly photos that I wanted to order to match the invitations. I had to pivot and create the remaining stationary myself on Canva and purchased graphics from this Etsy shop. It was a little extra work but turned out great! I may just do them myself for future parties.
The decor
What is a party without a balloon arch? I wanted to have a pretty background for the cake smash and thought an arch on our mantle would be perfect. I purchased this package from Amazon and a couple additional balloons of Etsy.
PRO TIP – Save your lungs and get a balloon air pump. My sweet aunt filled up all the balloons while I worked on building the arch and it made things so much easier!
The “happy birthday” banner is from Amazon.
While finding inspiration on Pinterest for party decor, I came across party signs on this brown paper. I really liked it and attempted to do it myself. I purchased a roll of paper from the Dollar Store and used craft acrylic paint. So happy with how it turned out! I plan on saving it for the memories.
I DIYed the high chair banner. I purchased pre-cut fabric from Walmart and card stock from Hobby Lobby.
The food
The majority of attendees were adults so for food we ordered specialty pizzas from a local Italian restaurant and made the sides – pasta salad, caprese salad, garden salad and fruit plate.
The cakes
For his smash cake, I ordered a small cake from Publix and purchased this cake topper from Amazon. Easy peasy. He(really me) made a wish and blew out this one candle.
Then for the main cake, I found an inspo pic on Pinterest and went to a local cake shop. The cake was perfect!
The outfits
I got him the cutest little race outfit from Amazon and these shoes to go with it. Of course, I forgot to actually put the shoes on him during the party. Fail. Then for the cake smash, he rocked this birthday hat.
For daddy and I, we wore these pit crew shirts in white.
