Happy New Year friends! I hope that you have walked into the new year, inspired, hopeful and ready to make this a great year.
Sergio and I took some time last week to write down all the things we want to do in the house. We went room by room (including exterior of house) and listed what we still needed to do. Both the larger projects that will require hiring a professional and smaller ones that we can handle ourselves. Not gonna lie, it’s a pretty long list. When we purchased this house, one of the selling points for us were the “fixer upper” projects that we saw in the house. Nothing too major that would send Sergio into a meltdown, but enough for me to add our personal touch to the house. We also knew that we could take our time with the projects – plan, save up the money, etc.
One of the big home projects that will be happening very soon is replacing our windows. We actually started the process in 2021 and put down a deposit but have been waiting for the supplies to be delivered. They have finally arrived so now we just need to confirm dates with the contractor. Fingers crossed we can nail down a date this month!
Our Vision Board
I put together this vision board with some of the “bigger” projects that we want to accomplish this year.
New front door
We have already been looking into replacing our exterior doors. We were hoping to get the doors done at the same time as our windows, however the contractor we ended up going with does not replace doors. Currently, our front door is a wood color, which if I were a for real DIYer, I could paint it black. However, time has shown me that while I like crafting and being creative, DIY home stuff is not really my jam.
Finish fireplace surround
When we purchased this house, we did some renovations prior to moving in which included installing some built in shelves on both sides of the fireplace in the living room. It was the first phase of the project as I wanted to also redo the fireplace surround and add paneling. Covid put a delay in our plans but we want to make it happen this year!
First floor bathroom refresh
We have a full size bathroom on the first floor because it is next to the guest bedroom. It has the prettiest blue and white wall paper which we plan on keeping. What we want to do there is replace the hardware, mirrors and lighting.
Complete our backyard oasis
While I don’t see us doing our dream backyard oasis anytime soon, we would like to at least furnish our deck. Last year, we got the deck repainted which made a huge difference! This year, we want to get furniture, a grill and some fun lighting for the space. We already found furniture from At Home and I am so excited to get it!
Create a bird sanctuary
In addition to furnishing the deck, I really want to create a little bird sanctuary. There is a birdhouse in our backyard that was there when we moved in. Every spring, there is a bird family that has babies and it is so cute to see them grow up and practice flying. I would like to build out that area and include more bird houses, feeders, bird bath and some flowers or greenery. I can picture it now… Bird watching while sipping on tea at the table on our deck. Pure bliss.
Okay. I am hoping that with all these projects we have in mind for this year, it will keep me inspired to blog. My goal is to post every Monday. So far, I am off to a great start!
